Since its founding in 1948, Israel’s population has swelled by 1,250%, driven by decades of immigration from all corners of the world. Within the next few months, Israel's population will reach 10 million citizens. The results of a once-in-fifteen year national population census was just published, providing detailed data on Israel's demographics at this historic milestone. 

Hinenu / Here We Are seeks to capture the essence of Israel's current population in 100 portraits that collectively match the key demographic markers of the country: age, gender, location, region of origin, religion, sub-religion, and sabra vs olim. The complete set of 100 portraits will present the viewer with a visually stunning and statistically accurate representation of the entire population of Israel. Each portrait will be accompanied by a one page, deeply revelatory story about the subject.

Seeking Participants

We are seeking Israelis from all backgrounds who (1) have unusually powerful stories to share (e.g. peak moments in life that tie you to the land, overcoming what felt like an unsurmountable challenge), and (2) are willing to have their portraits and stories published, using only their first names and demographic markers.
